4 Reasons to Consider a Heat Pump

Residents of Northern Colorado need air conditioning systems that work all year long. While gas or oil furnaces are extremely popular solutions — especially in winter — families looking for a simpler HVAC unit that works in both winter and summer may want to think about installing an electric heat pump. Here are four reasons why.

A heat pump uses the same setup for heating and cooling

During the summer, a heat pump transfers hot inside air back to the outside, just like an air conditioning unit. In winter, it essentially does the opposite, bringing warm outside air indoors. The heat pump uses a reversing valve to switch its operational mode between seasons and manage the airflow direction. Having only one system for all seasons makes it easier to maintain.

A heat pump uses less energy than furnaces

A heat pump transfers much more energy than it uses — in some climates, its energy efficiency is over 100%. Furnaces have to expend a lot of energy in gas or oil to work, and even the best gas furnace maxes out at 98% efficiency.

A heat pump can save on air conditioning costs

Since you're not spending money on the gas, propane, or oil you'd need for a furnace, a heat pump can save you a considerable amount of money. In some cases, you may realize savings of up to $200 every year with a heat pump.
