How Can Heat Pumps Heat and Cool?

This is a subtitle for your new postHow Can Heat Pumps Heat and Cool?

A heat pump is a type of HVAC system that heats and cools to keep your home comfortable all year round. The idea that a heat pump can both heat and cool can be hard to understand, but once you grasp the mechanics of it, you’ll see why they are a fantastic heating and cooling solution for every home.

How Does a Heat Pump Work?

Heat pumps don’t actually generate heat. Instead, they absorb it from heat energy that is outside, even when it’s cold, and they transfer it indoors. It differs from a furnace which creates heat and spreads it through your home.

A heat pump contains evaporator and condenser coils that connect between the units that are indoors and outdoors. The refrigerant flows through the units, and when it’s in the indoor coils, it’s cold.

The system pulls in the air, which passes over the coils, cooling down the air and heating up the refrigerant. The heat pump pushes the cool air into the air ducts, which cools your home. The warm refrigerant is cooled by the compressor and returned to the indoor coils.

When a heat pump is switched on to cooling, it works in exactly the same way as an air conditioner — it removes the heat from the air inside and releases it through the outdoor unit.

Older heat pumps become inefficient once the temperature drops below 32℉, requiring a furnace to provide sufficient heating. However, new technology means that a heat pump in Fort Collins, CO, will heat your home effectively and very efficiently.

In fact, modern heat pumps can deliver over three times the heat energy for the amount of electricity they use compared to a traditional HVAC system. It makes good sense to invest in a new heat pump in Fort Collins, CO.
